Comparing the State of L&D: February 2020 vs. May 2020

A new report about the L&D industry was released this week with data gathered in February 2020. Here's how some things have changed in 3 short months.

In February 2020, Mimeo gathered data from more than 200 training, talent and learning and development professionals to identify current trends and better help the industry prepare for the near future. (You can download the report here.)

And then COVID-19 happened.

Today, I would love for you all to join me as I take part in a virtual panel to discuss insights that are still useful in today’s context and to talk about what’s changed since February. The link to register for this panel discussion can be found at the bottom of today’s post.

Here are a few of the statistics from the report that, even though results came in pre-COVID-19, still have a very real impact on today’s learning initiatives and strategy:

State of Learning 2020 1

With 1 out of 3 training professionals working on a team of 3 or fewer people and 3 out of 4 training professionals working on a team of 10 or fewer, a lot of prioritization needs to be taking place right now between net-new initiatives and simply supporting the organization in converting from in-person initiatives to virtual.

To give you a better idea of how busy learning professionals are these days, the data collected just prior to the COVID-19 lockdown showed that 90% of respondents conducting sales training were doing so in a face-to-face fashion. While sales is just one area of training focus, it’s reasonable to expect that many other topics – from leadership development and soft skills training to system implementation to technical skill training – had similarly high rates of face-to-face delivery.

State of Learning 2020 2

If you’d like to join Betty Dannewitz, Spencer Wixom, Paul Sevcik and I discuss these data points, the overall trends covered in this new report and the current state of our industry, please register here!
